1. Volunteers:
At present, we are looking for Volunters to assist our different Wildlife Research activities through out the Nepal. Volunteers have to work in field research activities on Himalayan Serow, Musk deer, Bats, Frogs, especially Mountains ungulats of Nepal.
Required Qualification: At least I.sc. Forestry or B.Sc, Forestry or Zoology
Working periods: April to December 2008

Internship Information:

  • Student will work with grassroots, community organizations i.e Community Forestry Users Groups
  • Students will learn first hand about how people in rural communities work to conserve local natural resources to meet their own needs, resolve conflicts, and preserve and revitalize their cultural resources
  • Students will help make a difference in how natural resource management affects local communities    

Eligibility
Undergraduate, Graduate or Post Graduate students with interest in areas such as sustainable development, community forestry, agronomy, ecology, biology, environmental education, rural development, conservation, ecological economics , environmental sociology etc.

Facilities:
BRTF will provide floor for work and coordinate with different stakeholder, Community Forest users groups. Each student will be guided by professor or experience community Forest exports. We are not offering any financial support for this internship we just provides floor and arrange all others support being in Nepal.

Cost:
BRTF is not able to provide any Sponsorship/Scholarship to interested interns.

International Travel:
Flights from the Europe/USA are approximately $1000. Visas are required and their cost depends on the length of stay.

Housing:
BRTF does not provide housing or homestays, but will assist in locating suitable housing upon arrival of the intern.

There are several options for longer-term stay in Pokhara, all of which are dependant on budgets. BRTF will arrange to stay in field level with community or arrange to home stays its cost near about $25/month. If you want to stay in Hotels its range from $50------

BRTF will facilitate an airport pick up for foreign interns, in case it is requested for.

Food:
BRTF will not provide food allowances. Lunch can be purchased on a daily basis. Other meals are easily taken near the off place of residence. It is possible to arrange meals as part of the housing arrangement. Cooking is also a possibility if the intern's housing has a kitchen, stove, etc., though this is most often not the case. The cost of food and meals in Nepal is relatively very cheap. Depending on the preferences and appetite of the intern, the overall cost of food (prepared and purchased meals) is approximately US $50-$200 per month. It is also recommended that the intern purchase bottled drinking water, which is widely available at US $ 0.40 for 2 litres.

Local Travel Expenses:
BRTF will not provide local transportation. It is possible to live within walking distance of the Pokhara office. Otherwise, local transport will cost approximately US$20-$60 per month. BRTF will not pay for local transport for work related activities, though often the intern can be transported free of charge with other staff in ATREE vehicles.

The average monthly cost of living (housing, food, local travel) for interns is approximately US $250. This does not include personal travel or recreation.
