Community-based bat conservation project in the Panchase Region of
Nepal. The region is an important biodiversity hotspot under threat
from logging and from setting fires in caves to drive bats away so the
caves can be used for livestock. These activities are resulting the
loss of roosts for bats. This project will educate the local people
about the value of the bats through a variety of activities while
determining the distribution of bats in the area. Objectives:
- Find out the distribution area of Bats in
Panchase region.
- Find out conservation threats of Bats in
Panchase region.
- Publish poster and Brochures on Bat of
Panchase region.
- Change the attitude of local people by the
conservation education programme.
- Panchase Community
Forest user group Bat Conservation Network.
- Conduct conservation education awareness
program, Eco club formation, conservation essay/Art and quiz competition
among schools students of the project area.
- Prepare community base bat conservation action
plan.
What is Panchase
Forest and region ?
The Panchase
Forest is located at the nexus of the
districts of Kaski, Parbat and Syangja, in the western region of Nepal.
Panchase Forest is a Biodiversity hotspot, a
national forest, and thus owned by Government of Nepal. It is managed by the District Forest Offices and the
Ministry of Forestry and Soil Conservation (MFSC). The Panchase Forest
is bordered by ten Village Development Committees (VDCs) spread across Kaski,
Parbat and Syangja Districts. Pancahse Region Occupies the 45 sq.km area altitude
range of the area is 1500m to 2500m from the sea level. Total 45 Community Forest has covered by the Panchase
Region
