Abstract

The project was able to collect some baseline information about bats of Panchase region and able to raise conservation awareness about bats in the area. Trees roosting bats were distributed in all VDCs of Panchase region, every village of Panchase region has recorded bat in surrounding there house in late evening, especially summer time. Total 5 caves were identified only three caves with bat were recognized. Others caves didn’t have bat because of fire inside the cave by livestock headers and MOIST (during political conflict time) for their shelter. Bats regularly come in villager’s home and livestock shed, and they are regularly reported that bat always chewing the horn of young buffalo and cow, that's only region why local people don’t like bats.

Panchase region provides important habitat of bat diversity. Because of different microclimate in Panchase region there is high diversity of bat. On the basis of field survey we found 8 species of bat in Panchase region, there are more different types of bat are presence detail survey on species level should be carried out in future.

‘Without the management of people, we can not conserve natural resource’ this was main theme of conservation education programme. Bat Art and Essay competition was carried out in Panchakhosi Higher Secondary schools, Arther VDC in the period of March 2008. Altogether 49 (24 in Essay competition+25 in Art competition) were participated in Art and Essay competition.

The one day participatory bat conservation action plan workshop in Panchse' conducted in Arther VDC Panchase was as a whole successful. Many participants from different VDCs, especially representatives from community forest took part in workshop. 36 participants from different VDCs discussed whole days on the bat related topic.
