Abstract of Project:
Group discussion with Women group

Initiation of FUGs/WLGs to generate income from selling NTFPs and other IGAs products is one the emerging issues in community forestry. More specially, women, disadvantaged and poor forest user can be benefit from IGAs and the implementation of appropriate IGAs can help to increase their participation in community forestry. In this context, NARMSAP is going to encouraging and supporting FUGs/WLG to carry out IGAs in their community forests.
Meanwhile, there is need for a major review of NTFP related IGAs and other types of IGAs to build on experience and lessons learned. The following recommendations are made in order to promote and enhance IGAs in community forests through WLGs:

First priorities to give to Poor and disadvantage group for the carried out the IGAs activities.
Community forest land should provide for the NTFPs cultivation to poor and disadvantage group with some reliable term and condition by CFUGs. Before the carried out Income Generation activities, NARMSAP should provide training about that IGAs to selected members of that WLGs.
Information concerning any viable, useful techniques for any IGAs should be disseminated at the grassroots level through DFO staff as well as through other NGOs and INGOs. On the request of the FUGs/WLGs, some key user who can share their knowledge with other users should be given training in implementation of IGAs. A good reliable marketing mechanism should be developed and there should be good coordination between the FUGs/WLGs and the line agencies. WLG/FUG should collected their product in one place in local level by WLG/F UG and sell it to direct main trader so that FUGs/WLGs will receive maximum benefit from their IGA product. In this respect, the NARMSAP/DFO/FECOFUN office should facilitate the development of such linkages.
Disadvantages and poor users need special assistance and encouragement to participate fully in IGAs. There should be a particular focus on these groups while introducing new type of IGAs in community forestry. This can help promote employment opportunities and support the poverty alleviation program lunched by the government.
DFOs/NARMSAP should promote awareness of environmental degradation among the FUGs/WLGs involved in the IGAs.
The NARMSAP should give feedback to the policy makers about field experience. This could help to clarify and simplify implementation of rules and regulation of various IGAs in community forestry, as well as the collection, processing, transportation, sale of NTFPs and other IGAs product. The policy makers such as the Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation should positively acknowledge this cooperation and continue to develop processes and mechanism to efficiently implement changes regarding these rules and regulations.
NARMSAP/DFO staff should concentrate to provide technical support and monitoring more than financial support regarding to IGAs
It is very necessary to conduct awareness program about community forest’s IGAs in Grassroots Level.
